The S100- immunoreactive cell distribution was restricted by the ventral telencephalon. First S100-immunoreactivity within the developing cortex was demonstrated in the dorsal proliferative zone as early as 10–11 gestational week strictly in the ventral-lateral intermediate zone (and partly subventricular zone). All S100-cells were arranged properly interior in the intermediate zone and localized just under the cortical plate of the neocortex. The dorsal part of the hemisphere wall was immunonegative . Ventricular zone of both main proliferative zones—ventral ganglionic eminence and dorsal ventricular zone — demonstrated no S100-immunoreactivity (Kharlamova et al., 2024).
